Using machines for 1 side of the body?

Can I still see good, progressive results from only using one side of a machine for say bench press or leg press as long as I don't over lean into that side to much or cheat by over compensating?

I'm close to maxing out on several different exercises, and I can't afford free weights or a gym.

YES!!! Doing individual arm and leg exercises are recommended after you plateau. It also allows you to concentrate more on the muscle being worked.
