Well yesterday was leg day. At my gym we have a standing calf raise machine that also converts by releasing a center pin to do squats.
I set the weight pin at 180lbs and grabbed the handles beside the pads that rest on the shoulders, and stepped up onto the plate. As I was stepping up, the center pin fell out and the machine came down with the weight and all , and I was pinned under the machine.
Luckily thier was a person on the machine next to me who heard and saw the mess I was in. He released the pressure of the weights and I was able to get out of it. I ended up with a sore tricep and thats about it and no further pain today. My whole life flashed in front of me while it happenned.
Just want to say to everyone, check the equipment , and DON'T take things for granted!

Another reason to do squats with free weights inside of a power cage.

I am glad to hear you are around and kicking. Doesn't sound like it was a good day at the gym yesterday for either one of us.

Glad you're ok.
The one benefit of being a weakling is that I can only do minimal damage with my 20lb dumbells

Well, thank God you didn't get seriously hurt.
The standing calf machine at our gym has a trick release pin on it too. I've never done more damage than breaking a nail on it, so I will consider myself quite fortunate.

I do squats with the free weights and cage, but was using this machine for "standing calf raises".
Thanks all for the concern and no pain today. Count my blessings as they say!

Yes, glad to hear you are alright for sure. On second reading I realized you using the machine for calf raises not squats - my bad :(. Nonetheless, it does illustrated that machines also have their dangers and have to be approached with the same degree of caution as when using free weights.
