I am paraphrasing an article here, but it is great food for thought.
As diet obesessed a nation as we are, you would think everyone would be thin as a rail. But, quite to the contrary, and despite an array of diet options, overwhelming numbers of folks are overweight and not shedding pounds. According to figures from the National health and nutrition examination survey, more than 65% of the adult population is considered overweight, with a BMI of 25 to 29.9. Slightly more than 30% of adults are classified as obese(BMI of 30 or higher). For children between 6 and 19, stats show more than 30% are at risk for weight problems, while 16% are already in the overweight category. As you may well know, extra lbs. are a risk factor for a number of chronic health concerns, including diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension. So, with a nation so diet obsessed, why are we getting fatter? During the past 30 yrs., our calorie intake has increased, alot from more frequent visits to restaraunts(especially the fast food variety), larger portion sizes of both food and drink, more consumption of sugary drinks, and extra snacks. This comes down to one if not obvious fact it should be, we are eating more and burning off less with less physical activity. What can we do? There are a variety of options, a sensible low carb diet is one. (note I said sensible). Cutting portion sizes is another simple yet effective measure. Replace all processed foods with healthy fruits and veggies, and eliminate foods and drinks containing loads of sugar. Combine these simple strategies with more movement(a bit of exercise), and the extra lbs. can become a thing of the past. Good health to all of you....this is the point I am most trying to make here.:big_smile: -------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

Great post. But nobody ever tells you what order to eat it or if my diets balanced. Your grocery list is great too but I still dont get the other questions answered. Im trying to lose fat. Im 247lbs 5'10"/ I did a couple of test and it says im around 25.9%fat. This is what I am eating almost everyday. One problem is I not consistant enough till a couple of weeks ago.
800am oatmeal with water. Premade packet with sugar(I know but oatmeal and water tastes like cardboard, actually cardboard taste better) 930am fat free yogurt and centrum A to Z 1200pm white cheese stick apple roastbeef on whole wheat amd mustard 230pm celery and all natural pb (dont but Laura Scudders brand yuck) 500pm Tonight I had lean beef pieces fat free gravy and noodles 800pm workout 930pm ON whey with blueberries and 1%milk I sometimes have fat free pretzels or peanuts or almonds maybe a pickle. Also what about tuna with light mayo? Without mayo I cant eat it,In fact I try to eat fish before and i cant stomach it. Any tips advice? I know it probaly not good but I need to start losing weight. I know that in the UK the average calorie consumption has actually DECREASED since the 1950s, but we're getting fatter too -
People are eating more nutritionally empty junk and I suspect a lot of the overweight people have wrecked their metabolisms with fad dieting, however the obvious difference is the lack of exercise. Natas, I think it is sometimes easier to make a series of small changes rather than lots at once, and I think your number one dietary priority should be increasing your vegetable intake. How about replacing the noodles you have with your beef with brocolli, green beans or other veg? |

Well today I ate some stir fry and I actually ate water chestnuts. They have no taste,so they are easy to eat and I ate some broccoli, and carrots. I also ate canned spinach at lunch. Any better?:(

Much better, Natas, especially the brocolli and the spinach :)
I'm sure you know what to do with the sugar that you add to your oatmeal. I love oatmeal on it's own, but I know that others on this site mix their whey with their oatmeal (either after the oatmeal has cooled, or using a specific heat resistant brand)- that way you could get rid of the sugar. Also, not having anything from 9.30pm until 8am is quite a long gap - what about some cottage cheese last thing at night before you go to bed? |

I think it would be best to just add a bit of sugar to regular oatmeal (or SPLENDA!!!) that way you don't get all the other chemicals that come with the presweetened packs. or you could add fruit to it, maybe? I know my mom used to put milk in her oatmeal and she said that made it better. |

People are starting to wise up. Commercial bakeries are diverting to more whole wheat and grain breads, because the population is realizing the negatives of white bread which is also effecting sales.
On another note, the company who makes "Twinkies" is seeing sales drop so rapidly for the same reason, they might be bankrupt in the not so far future. Keep eating well. -------------- "A will finds a way, failure is not an option" Ivan carivan@freetrainers.com Montreal Canada |
