Hi everyone,
I am thinking about buying a heart rate monitor to try and monitor my fitness, make sure that I am training in the right range and to try and maintain motivation.

Can anyone comment on their experiences of using a heart rate monitor and if they are any good?

Thanks!!

Polar makes a reliable product. I use one when doing my bicycle intervals. No need for the top of the line, as there are different applications with different models. Stick with the basic. They have to be calibrated every few years.

i used to race mountain bikes semi pro and my coach was always really strict about heart rates while training. i used a Cardiosport monitor and had good luck with it. it was easily attached to my handle bars so that it didn't bother my wrist or anything and has pretty cool alarm functions that let you know when you are too high or low (from your preset levels). you could also record a training session and look back at the data. this was also about 100 CDN less than going for the Polar monitor.

I have been using Polar monitors since my training began about three years ago. I have started out with the basic which was great. As I developed, so did my heart monitor!! :)

Any heart monitor for basic use will be great. It is very important to know your heart rate while you are doing your cardio. This is a great investment into your fitness!!
