I am a beginner looking to gain overall body mass,
would power cleans be of any benefit for gaining muscle or is the exercise just a power lift?

Thanks in advance

Your power would greatly increase and it would probably help all of your other lifts as well. But, as far as muscle mass goes, it's probly not what you're looking for. Power Cleans are all in the hips and core. It's not like you're going to get big shoulders from them or anything.

traps might get bigger, but fact is, its a form thing really. Its a power movement, but if you have crappy form then it will do more harm than good. Do some light sets as a warm up if you like, but as for body building, i wouldn't advise it, unless you play sports.

Power cleans are a good excersise but are more of an olympic style lift speed and form.

Power Cleans and Olympic lifting in general will definitely make you bigger if you train them long enough to get good at them. Strength and size supports power. When you load the body with any kind of weight you will gain some mass from it. Now, are they the most effective means of getting bigger, no. Bodybuilding is. It depends on what you want. Do you want the appearance of strength or do you really want strength?
