Hey everyone, I have really been thinking about becoming a personal trainer recently, I have thought about it before and now i think I'm going to follow through with it. I have been looking at ISSA i know it's rather expensive but i like the convienence of the online courses and exams. I do have some concerns though before i spend the $600. I am currently 20 years old and will be turning 21 in the beginning of december and was wondering if i am too young to become a personal trainer? How hard is it to break into the Personal Training profession ie finding a job. I live in Calfornia so I'm guessing there should be plenty of people who would want a trainer...no? Do you have to be in immaculate shape?

I have often thought the samething a/b myself. I am gonna buy the book, and read it a few times, By then I should be 22. Knowledge is knowledge, only differance is young people don't have has much expierance.

After all would If you was the president, would you want a 1st time body guard, or aguy that been doing it for 5- 6 years?

I do agree, you don't need to be a body builder, but you do need ot be in some sort of shape, wither it be cardio vascular or strenth or somthing.

I just finished a huge 3day fitness conference in Toronto (for trainers/group fitness leaders) and really therer were a huge variety of physical levels there. I personally....prefer someone who has lived what they say....I am not in great shape....but I did lose major pounds and have inspired other very overweight women to do the same....I don't intimidate them.....Some trainers hae never been out of shape nor had to worry about their weight but they preach how easy it is to do....I am sorry it isn't easy....

So my point is...you don't have to be in amazing shape....you should know your stuff though.... and 20 isn't too young...
