I have read that you should do benches from all angles- flat, incline, and decline. My question is do you do four sets of each, one set of each, or what. I tried to do three sets of each last night. I started with flat, then did decline. By the time I got to inclines, I was completely trashed and could only do 2 or three reps.
What's the proper routine?

Rotate them and mix in dumbell movements too. 2 or 3 sets of whatever you do is enough. Fill out your profile, it helps us to know your experience level in order to help you.

Please fill out your profile and tell us a little about yourself. How long have you been working out? How much weight did you start out with. How many reps did you do with each set?

Heres what I do:

Four sets of Normal Bench Press, go do some other stuff for about 10 minutes, then do Incline 3-4 sets depending on how I feel (usually 4), and then do something for 10 minutes, and then go do Decline. I usually only do 3 sets of decline.

Ok I filled out the profile. Charlie, I assume by rotating you mean to do flats first this week and next week do inclines first, and so on.

The reason I asked for a profile is that if you're fairly new, the FT workouts are perfect to start with. You'll get the proper number of reps and sets to accomplish what you want. From the sound of your profile, the special mass program may be worth a look.

And yes you may want to startout with incline DB flyes, then flat bench and a set of decline BB lifts. The next week or month you may do DB flat bench with flat BB bench and finish with DB incline flyes. The order isn't as important as the change up is. It pays to keep your muscles guessing.

The FT workouts will help a beginner figure out how to tailor a workout to his needs. I like them because I don't care to plan and think.:big_smile:But I do add movements on because after a while it didn't seem like enough. Make sense?

Yes that makes sense to me. I am fairly new but I have done a lot of reading on the site and have learned quite a bit already. Thanks for the help!
