why would you do speed training? What the heck is speed training? Never do uncontrolled reps where you are swinging or bouncing. You also cant do strength training and toning at the same time you can just do an overall body sculpting which is where you keep your reps between 8-12 or you can do strength 3-5 reps or you can do toning 12-20 reps but dont mix it as you will have your body going in circles not knowing what you want it to do.

Well, I was doing strength training in the begining but now I'm doing strength training on Monday and on Friday I'm doing speed training on chest.

I would say its ok to work out the same muscle group in the same week as long as you are not doing strength training. I would make sure their is atleast 4 days between for rest of that muscle thats all

I've been experimenting with different workout plans for about a year, until about 2 months ago and I found one that really seems to fit me. Its like this:
Mon. Chest, Biceps
Tues. Legs, Abs
Wed. triceps, shoulders, back
Fri. fullbody, 2 excercises from each muscle group except
for Biceps and triceps and I only do one for each.
My question is am I overtraining by working out each muscle group twice a week. Because everyone always stresses that you should workout a muscle group only once a week because of recovery, but does a muscle group really need 150 hours a week of rest. Thanks

bbron I'm doing that to increase strength, since I've been doing this my 1RM has gone from 225 to 275 on bench, so something is working, the reason I asked the question in the first place is because when I started this my muscles had lost the soreness in 2 days, but know it usually takes 3 to 4 days before the soreness goes away. I dont know if its because I'm lifting heavier or what.

please explain how fast you are doing each rep are you doing like 1 sec up and 1 sec down? or even faster than that?

speed training is when I take 50-60% of my 1RM and do 8 sets of 4 as quick as possible but keeping full control and I have in between rests of 30 seconds.

2 seconds down and 1 second up

8 sets of 4???? thats nuts are you sure its not 4 sets of 8reps? 8 sets of 1 excercise is WAY overtraining you should do half that so you can target other parts of that muscle. So I see you are working more on the negative reps which is good because it incorporates more growth but I would add a second to it if you want to focus on strength and size. If I did 8 sets and did 8 different excercises for the day (thats doing 2 muscle groups so 4 sets for each muscle) I would be in the gym for over 2 hours and thats way too long and could end up shrinking your muscles.

Bbronswyk, there are several good posts on speed lifting in the powerlifting forum. I bumped one to the top. You can do a fitbuddy search for more. If you haven't read any of gatormades posts, you will enjoy them.
