I'm 19 and male and am starting one of the ft programs today. I'm 5'7 and 180 lbs. Body fat is about 23%. BMI is
28.3. With regular lifting, regular cardio (3x a wk) and healthy, clean diet, would 3 months be a realistic time frame to reduce body fat by 5%? I know everyone is different, but I'm trying to give myself a general time frame so that I can stay motivated and have something to shoot for.

BMI and BF% aren't the best way to gage your progress. BMI can really be skewed by a muscular body. Muscle is heavier than fat. With BF% there are many methods of checking it that are so inaccurate as to be useless. There are accurate methods to be sure but they are expensive or require an experienced person to do it.

A better way is the good old low tech tape measure. It won't lie. Scales are an ok tool but they can lie. You may put on some muscle and lose some fat. The scale in this case may say you gained weight but the tape says you lost inches. Thats the most accurate and inspiring way to go.

Don't get discouraged in the beginning if you get a little bigger. As you build muscle, it can push the overlaying fat out slightly. This is temporary. If you eat right , rest properly and lift, your body will win the battle.

Welcome to FT and good luck.
