Cookie,
Yes, working with weights is the same CONCEPT as working with resistance bands. However, it's not exactly the same thing. Resistance bands are great tools, and can be a part of any good resistance training program. However, the thing to remember is that the idea behind resistance training is to challenge your muscles, tendons and ligaments, which makes them stronger. There are different types of resistance bands that provide higher or lower levels of resistance, but I would not rely completely on them. Use free weights and the bands for a great weigh to challenge your body on different levels. ============ Quoting from gme_cookie: Oh, one more question is it the same thing to work with weights to working with like resistance bands? ============= -------------- Aaron M. So this is the thing, i used to work out alot and was about three sizes down from where I'm right now. I had a bit of a health problem which didn't allowed me to excercise for almost a year. I've started working out for two months now, started with just walking for half an hour and a bit of specifics for another 30 hr. Now it's been more than two weeks since I've started jogging, but the thing is that I can't seem to loose fat or weight only like 3 pds. I watch what I eat & I haven't started any weight wrkout yet cause I wanna loose the fat and then gain muscle or else I feel like I'm just hardening the fat :( I've been doing mostly cardio. I'm I doing this the right way?

Cookie,
In short, you DO need to do weight training in addition to your cardio. If you are just doing cardio, you could actually be sabotaging your bodyfat loss efforts. You need to do weight training for a lot of good reasons, and when it comes to bodyfat loss, weight training can be one of your best tools. The long and the short of it is fairly easy, gme_cookie...more muscle burns more calories 24/7! That thing called Resting Metabolic Rate, that is the weight in which you burn energy or calories while resting - well, if you have more muscle you are going to burn, burn, burn more while resting even! I added weight training and have now, as of today, lost 20.5 inches! I attribute that to weight training, eating right and cardio.
Good luck to you! -------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL ***When you are up to your ears in trouble, try using the part that is not submerged. ***The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan. HAVE A GREAT DAY! |

also, some gain weight some lose weight 1st........me I gained 10lbs....but lost like 1in everywhere.....weights and scales don't pay attention to them. Watch the tape measure, if your gaining but losing inches....your losing fat....if your gaining weight and inches, may need to rethink what your doing. In jr high( 13 14yrs old) I was 250lbs 48 in waist..........now i'm 257lbs 38in waist.-------------- .......adversity causes some to break, but others to break records! ......minds are not vessles to be filled, but fires to be enlightened ......Confucious once said ,DO NOT play leap frog with a unicorn |

Hey, thanks for the tips, I'll try to add some weight lifting to my routine, :) mmm.... how about if I add some weight to my cardio, like putting weights on my ankles or something like that, would that help too?

Nooooonooooo weights on the arms or probably ankles either. There are some good articles online about this, go do a search on yahoo and you can see the reasons for this, but most particularily - this could create undo stress on those areas of your body and the small amount used is not enough to really make much of a difference - how do I know this? Because I was doing it until the experts here told me it was not a good idea and why! Do actual weight training - that is implementing a full routine into your life using weights, real weights. Have you checked into the free program FT provides on weight training? Go back and check it out, it's at the top of the page and says Fitness Plan.
Good luck to you!! You've already gotten some good advice above! some machines like elipticals and stair steppers you can adjust the weight on it, so its hard to move your legs......usually from 0 -100 try that. Ancle weights just will add more stress to yoru knees.....which then transferes to hips, then to lower back and get syou al messed up.-------------- .......adversity causes some to break, but others to break records! ......minds are not vessles to be filled, but fires to be enlightened ......Confucious once said ,DO NOT play leap frog with a unicorn |
