It depends on whether you listen to the television commercials or us wise ones at FT, *wink*!

Actually, a good weight loss will be 1-2 pounds per week - for example, it takes 3,500 calories to make or lose a pound of fat, so for an example if you were take the amount of calories you are "suppose" to eat in order to maintain your daily energy needs, let's say that is 2500, then cut them back about 200 to 2300 and and let's say you are burning approximately 300 calories exercising every day (it is just easier for me to figure out, I know you do 3-5), that would mean you are down to 2000 calories vs. the 2500 per day...so at 500 calories per day loss you would lose one pound in 7 days!

You would have to watch your results (use a measuring tape -NOT the evil scale) and see if your configurations are working, if they are not, you just readjust your calorie intake.

Weight training will be very essential to burning those calories - muscle calories burns 24/7 and actually increases the amount of calories it burns as you gain more lean muscle!

Good luck to you and hope I didn't confuse you!

That was a very informative and educated post Veda! I've often wondered "how" it works, but most of the time just been content that it "does" work.

Very glad you've decided to join us in the scale free way of life!! The measuring tape can be just as nasty, but at least it's consistent.

Now if only I could get my foot around the back far enough and kick myself in the butt I'd join you in the "doing well" part. Must find a way to motivate myself!

Heeheeeheee!!!:laugh: Yep, that's right, Charlie, it's evil powers no longer control me! Thanks to your strong persuasion (sp?), the spell has been broke! Not another tear will drop as the scale flip-flops! Go ahead, break out those golf clubs and have a martini on me!

Thanks, Donna, doing well is on a day-by-day basis, but that is okay, I am just going to do what I can to get to where I want to be and hope that day comes sooner than later!

Smiles to ya' all!

I am new as of today. I am looking for a lifetime change. I am overweight and sick of it! I want to make a positive change for the better. It seems like a battle, a war against who, myself? I read all your posts about "The dreaded scale " and I decided about a month ago that I would only weigh myself when my pants fit more loosely. Then I know it will be good but what if my pants stay the same , oh no , then I'm in trouble!

Yeah, no doubt, wood0560, fat actually takes up 20% more room than muscle, even though muscle weighs more of course! So 30 pounds must feel awesome!!!! Good job!

It's ok, crazycat, you may even find after a month you've gained a lot of muscle and you may not find a huge difference, yet again, you may, whatever happens, don't give up, just keep going, you will notice the difference!
