I need help.
I am going to be 21 this coming august and I wiegh over 300 pounds. I moved to baltimore almost 2 years ago (July 4, 2002) and things were going fairly well. I was staying with family, I had found a somewhat decent job and I even managed to get a membership to Bally's. Everything was great, I was actually starting to lose wieght and feel great :) but then I got sick. I wound up having a cancerous like tumor that they operated on. The doctor then put me through 2 weeks of chemo therapy. It was interesting being bald for awhile; however, the company fired me for missing too many days, and I couldn't work out any more. Hospital and school bills just piled up. Its been a complete mess for the past year and i've blown up like a balloon. I am finally starting to get ontop of my financial situation but i don't know what to do about my weight. I make very little money as it is, and i don't have much control over what my family buys at the grocery store. (ack, its temptation central over here!) I've been feeling so frustrated and the situation seems fuitle. I even went so far as to starve myself yesterday. I know it was stupid, i wound up feeling sick and having a headache all day. So this is my cry for help. I need all the motivation and love and support that I can get. Please help. Anthony :( -------------- \\"There is a place that does exist. Unimaginable. Hey Anthony. Welcome to FT. You've got a good start just finding this site. Please fill out your profile so all the pros here can help you out better.
My suggestion would be to get a program using this site. If you can't afford a gym membership, you might want to look into buying a bench and some free weights. Look in the classifieds and you might be able to find it all for a really great price. As for some cardio. If you're not doing anything now, you might want to start with walking. Can you walk to work? Or is it too far? I used to park my car 20 minutes from work and walk the rest of the way. It was cheaper parking and I got 40 minutes of walking in each day. What about a bike? The diet. Well - whoever does the grocery shopping needs to know your goals. Simply tell him/her that you want to eat healthy foods. Print off the grocery list for body builders found in the nutrition section of this board and ask the shopper to use it as a guideline when they shop. This site has lots of great info - and great people. Read all you can here and educate yourself about what you need to do to get a healthy body. And join us on this section of the board. There are many of us here that are in the "heavyweight" category. We try to support each other as much as we can. We'd love to have you join us. |

Hello, Anthony, I'm so sorry about your struggles, it can sure dampen our spirits but I am so glad that you have come here. There is so much positive input here that you won't have a choice most times but to smile!
Please don't starve yourself again, be patient and understanding with yourself instead. You have been through a lot and you have a whole life ahead of you full of adventure and experiences that will bring you joy. Focus on the things that make you happy, not the things that bring you down if you can. I have told my children, "in each day there is a bright spot, it will be there, you just have to see it" and they have learned that no matter how tough the day or the road ahead, if they can find even one bright spot, they focus on that. It may be a stranger saying a kind word, it may be a beautiful sunset, you just have to look and it will be there.... I have 70 pounds to lose and am a cancer survivor, I have found by being patient with myself and only critical in a humorous ways, that I can do this, day by day, moment by moment. You can too, don't look at the large picture if it is difficult, look to smaller goals, daily goals then onto weekly goals, etc. Change your eating habits bit by bit, taking from here, adding to there...understand that you will have bad days and you have to forgive yourself rather than condemn yourself. Lastly, post here, do searches on fitBuddy below and read from people much like yourself and you will find you are not alone in your struggles, but only you alone can find a way to tell yourself that you are worth it, that you can succeed, and you can! -------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL ***When you are up to your ears in trouble, try using the part that is not submerged. ***The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan. HAVE A GREAT DAY! |

*hugs* :)
Thank you so much Vedakathryne and prairiegirl for you support and advice, its is very much appreciated and it is good to know that I am not alone in this struggle. Its been so hard finding the motivation to do something. I am always telling myself that I need to do something, i need to lose weight before its too late. But saying and doing are two different things. I think this site is going to be a big help. I have already started a few things, I'm trying my best to eliminate sodas from my diet and trying to drink lots of water (luckily my family buys lots of it, but they generally buy just as much soda :( ) I have started paying attention to food labels and i try to buy myself items that are low in fat and calories. I got myself a backpack and now I take water with me to work. Its not much but i guess its a good start. Any other ideas? I've got a question to ask though, I walk to my job (its like a 30 min. walk) and back home, and while i'm there i'm am generally on my feet the whole time. I work stock at a retail store. Anyway, by the time i get home, my legs, from the knees down, are killing me and i don't have the energy to go to the park for a walk or run (*sigh* i miss running, i use to do it quite a bit). Is there anyway i can come home not feeling so ragged? Anthony -------------- \\"There is a place that does exist. Unimaginable. With untold Fantasys and Dreams Impossible.
