I have no idea what I should be at for being 36 years old, 6 feet and about 185lbs... but I was in the drug store the other day and gave one of those machines a whirl... dunno how accurate it is, but it's a good gauge I guess... it said my BP was 104/84.... now, it's been a long time since I took anything to do with blood pressure in high school, so I'm not sure if that's good or not.... I can't find anything on the net that gives me any sort of guide...

Thanks!

Yes, that is a great BP. If I remember from my last visit to the clinic, 120/90 is considered "average" So your's is doing fine!

Those BP machines in the drugstore are as useless as breasts on a bull. Have your Dr check it or buy a cuff. If it is 104/84, the top number is a teeny bit low and the bottom is a teeny bit high. Both numbers are within what the docs consider "normal"

I don't know about your side of the pond but over here below 130/85 is normal 130-140/85-90 is borderline 140-160/90-100 is slightly high 160-180/100-110 is moderately high and >180/110 is very high.
Your blood pressure should be measured twice at one sitting and should be taken on three seperate occasions before hypertension is diagnosed as normally BP will drop with successive measurements.

Last time I had mine checked, it was 120/87 and she told me it was a little high. I remember when that was considered low

Used to be 140 over 90 was the high cutoff. Now my doc says 130 over 80. I was 129 over 75 the other day at the doc and he gave me the Judge Judy "PERFECT"

Like Charlie said...forget the drugstore machines! Almost as bad as instant coffee! Buy a cuff, and check it against your doctor's machine. The best time to check your own bp is when you wake up.
My bp is usually around 120/70 and is considered ok.

The drugstore machine was more of a curiosity thing than anything else... the guys in the white lab coats should know more accurately... haha...
