I went to Google and looked up Medical Side-Effects of the Depo-Provera shot and I got this site.

IT says that one of the side effects is weight gain.

"Weight Gain: On average women gain about 3 - 5 pounds a year while using Depo-Provera."

I don't know much about it, but actually studying into it helped me learn something new, so thanks for the challenge!

I'm not a doctor, so I don't correctly know that this is true or not, but I browsed 6-7 sites with medical issues on the Depo shot, and it seems that it has side effects of Weight Gain.

I also found this site, which details it more if you like.

Sorry for triple posting , I can't find a way to edit the posts, and this is a very interesting thing while I browse medical sites.

It looks like these 2 sites are conflicting which I gave you, one says there is weight gain, and the second says there is not weight gain, but there is food craving.

But you said you don't eat that much, and you still increase in weight. So.... I suppose somehow in this circle there is either weight gain, or craving and you just don't notice.

But I'm sure you notice how much you eat, so that must complete the answer.

There is weight gain, and there is only one site that says that it increases "Food Craving".

So hopefully all this medical information helped you, I can only go so far ;)

I can only speak from personal experience, which was that my behind expanded rapidly and excessively.

Go with the patch, the weight goes to your boobs instead!:)

Having your tubes tied won't have any effect on your hormones, so it shouldn't make you gain weight. You say your not eating much - are you eating enough?
I upped my calories from about 1300 to about 1600 and started eating more regularly and I've LOST weight.

good point lodgey, I think I have had the same effect, but I still have yet to LOSE weight, it just looks lost. So I won't complain.

I've found that being on Depo makes you gain weight VERY easily if you don't keep up on diet and excersize religously. GL figuring out what is best for you though!

I try to lose weight but I feel like I am getting nowhere. I look at the scales and am disapointed because of the fact that I have gained not lost. I want to get into the military but I can't lose the weight and I feel it is becaue of the Depo and I cant get off of it otherwise I will bleed longer than I am suppose to and the Depo stops that. I just don't know what to do. I want to lose weight but the harder I try the more weight I gain.

girl4u, you've come to the right place to find out what to do.. but the doing is up to you!!

It can feel like you're getting nowhere, and be very disappointing, but remember you are changing your lifestyle and the results come at a different pace, and in different places, for everyone.

First off.. lose the "I can't lose the weight" mentality. You CAN, if you truly apply yourself and stick with it even after falling off now and then. You have to really really want to, and you have to recognize that all of that other stuff, the Depo side-effects, the hormones, the bleeding, etc.. are all peripheral.. as you get healthier, those issues will most likely subside!

Read read read the posts here and educate yourself on how to start slowly and build yourself up into a healthier lifestyle... adjust your eating habits, start a workout program and then add on to it, tweak it, persevere.. once you understand why your body responds the way it does to food and exercise, what it needs, and what things to avoid that will completely negate all the positive things you are doing .. you'll feel so much better about it.

Getting started can be soo overwhelming.. but don't give up.. you'll be smarter AND healthier, and hey, even look good too!!
