excuse my over-exuberance - I'm still full of endorphins after a cycling trip

You never see cyclists looking scrawny like long distance runners -I think this must be because you can constantly top up your carb supply when you're cycling by having a sports drink in your water bottle - so you can cycle for hours, burn loads of fat wihtout risking so much of your muscle.
You also get a HIIT workout every time you reach a hill.

Is there another form of cardio which comes anywhere close to this good?

I like cycling my trek mountian bike has allot of mile on it. Bike riding is very low impact on the knees. - Mike

ok, since you asked nicely. I heard that swimming is the best cardio you can do. I'm not sure though. Simply for the sake of arguing, I guess.

I would rather sandpaper a bobcat's ass in a phone booth than tangle with most women.

Actually, I heard the some sort of ballet is actually the best from one source.

I perfer to believe the source that said cycling and cross country skiing to be the best.

The reason why cyclists are generally not as scrawney as long distance runners is because cyclists rely on power as a characteristic of a successful cyclists. They also vary speed incredibly and use all three energy systems when competiting.
