Are exercise programs as effective if they are spread out throughout the day than all in one go?

I have split my workouts throughout the day and find they ARE more effective for a couple of reasons. 1, you can hit different muscle groups harder. 2, it gives your metabolism a boost twice in 1 day rather than just once.
Unfortunately, for me, this is not a very feasible schedule. It is hard for me to find the time to workout twice.
Hope that helps!
