How many of you guys really pay attention to the speed at which you lift and lower the weight? If you do what timing do you use and what do you find works the best? Is there really merit in the super slow motion reps?

It usually takes me a count of 2 for every positive (concentric) movement & a count of 3 for the negative (eccentirc) portion. According to Lee labrada who placed 2nd in the Mr. Olympia back in the 80's, you need to keep the tension all the way throught the rep...in other words - no pausing.

I usually use the same tempo as tt_rocker,but i do tend to change very 4-6weeks just for variation. As i'm sure your body get used to tempo's as much as your body get used to the routines that you do.They always say to do legs press's really slow .....keep's good tension!

Wouldn't it depend on the muscle group being worked and the weight being used.

slowing down is a good way to increase intensity. Sometimes I take a full 7 to 10 seconds to complete a rep depending on the exersize.

I usually count to 4 going down and on the push or pull. When doing Bi-ceps and legs extension/curls I go down for the count of 4 up counting to 4 then pinch and hold to the count of 4. Once I get tired I will go half reps using a fast steady motion until complete failure.

I generally use 2 to 3 seconds concentric and 4 to 6 seconds eccenrtic. Like billk I'm kinda partial to partial reps to. They finish off a pump nicely. Also I like to use them when I'm trying to reach a new level in the weight used on an exercise. If I'm nervous about a weight I have as a goal, it seems to help me build confidence if I play aruond with the goal weight useing partial reps before I really try to hit it. Thanks for your thoughts guys.
