Hello everyone, I'm new here. I understand that you get sore after you haven't worked out in a long time. I just started a program with this website yesterday. My body feels absolutely horrible lol. I have been quite sedentary for a while now, but man. I have a really hard time walking down stairs because my thighs hurt so bad lol. I think I overdid it on the first day (not to mention I didn't stretch).

Does anyone have any suggestions for me? My program has me working out tomorrow too, and I dread it lol. Once the pain goes away I'll be fine, but is there anything I can do after I already screwed myself? :D

Well I dont think there is anything you can do now but maybe try taking some glutamine and or creatine. I think both of those help with muscle soreness and rebuild time.

Ok, I really screwed something up. It's almost 4am and I just woke up in much pain. It took me almost a minute to completely stand up. My muscles have cramped up horribly. This has never happened before.

Lesson learned. Don't go nuts after being sedentary for 2 years.

You didnt go nut's lol this is normal and fades with time. You got to love the pain after a good leg day when you cant even get of the toilet. pain is temporary pride is forever. Train hard - Mike

Yah its normal, You will always be sore somewhat, but recovery gets much better with time. Make sure to do a proper warm up and Stretch before and after.

I have found that some Cardio and Stretching can help with the pain the next day. Don't go nuts, and get a good stretch afterwards. But don't expect the pain to be gone for about 4 days. If this is your first week, keep your weights light, and work into getting the weights up, the soreness will be much more bareable then.

Yeah, like speeder said, do some cardio. Whenever I get REALLY sore legs it helps me most if I go on say a 1 mile light jog. If you've been completely sedentary for a couple years maybe a 1/4 mile or 1/2 mile would be better for you, just whatever you want. It hurts at first but by the end of the run it feels a great deal better. Also I take an advil or aleve when the pain is real bad and I have to go places like school, the muscle relaxers work great, just don't take them before a workout.

The best thing about the pain your going through now is that it will get better. Even though it sounds awfull to go back to the gym again after being in such pain its the best thing you can do for it. Like the other posters said some cardio and light work on those muscles will make them feel "some" better. Be sure not to be working the same muscles again the next day though. Try to get at least 48 hours rest on the same muscle group.

Another good thing about this pain is that it helps prevent you from being lazy again. It's a motivator because if you stop training and come back you'll have to go through it all over again. So, just don't stop! :)

Good luck!

I would do some cardio, I understand that would get the blood flowing and everything. But I'm in way to much pain.

I truly do understand that when you don't work out for a while there is some pain when you start again. But the reason I posted is that it hurts so much I can barely walk lol. I worked out my whole body, in one day, to my max. That was REALLY dumb. And now I'm paying for it. I have a test tonight at school but I don't think I can even make it there. I can stand and everything, but it takes a minute or so for my calves to stretch enough that my heels can touch the ground. Once I get walking I'm ok, but I walk like I have a stick up my ass LOL. Thats not good. :(

hahaha !! man well your intensity for the workouts is obviously there!!

The soreness will go away but I think you for sure learnt your lesson, you need to ease into things. Keep on stretching, i stretch a lot after workout days, I personally think it feels AMAAZING!!

Sometimes u have to take muscle relaxers.. but only in extreme cases for me! i dont get super sore anymore ... Glutamine helps me with that

Yeah I sure did learn my lesson lol. Well I made it to my class just fine and took my test. However I must have looked like a gimp getting up out of my chair after sitting in it for an hour hahaha.

Well thanx everyone for listening to me bitch and moan. I just want to feel better so I can start working out again soon. Thanx. :D

grunt, i have been there before. i remember when i did calves my first time after getting back into working out. I couldn't walk for a few days. the worst part was, this was during my creatine cycle and i was drinking soooo much water and had to keep getting up to go to the bathroom all day at work. The bathroom never seemed so far away.

good luck man and keep at it!! it will get easier.
