A friend of mine works for a physica therapist. He told me that to make a good homemade gel cold compress, to take some water and some rubbing alcohol and put it in a ziploc bag. He said to freeze it and since the alcohol needs a lower temperature to freeze, it makes a gel and is great for injuries.
Unfortunately, he did not give me the ratio of alcohol to water so I guess it will be trial and error until you figure it out. He said put a few tablespoons in. Give it a try.
