OK,
about a year and a half ago I broke my back. I was doing squats and the bar slipped behind my center of balance and I came down with over 200lbs on my shoulders. I crushed a vertebrea directly behind my diaphram, tore the main ligament nearly in half and tore up a bunch of muscles in my lower back. Unfortunately I've not been able to get a complete diagnosis of the damage (damaged disks, tendons etc.) due to the fact that I moved 6 months later and have yet been able to secure an appointment with another doctor.

So my question: While trying to get an appointment, I've been given different info. each time I try to set something up. Some people tell me to go to an orthopedic specialist, other say I should go to osteopath. I don't think I need to go to a neurologist since (only through the grace of God) I had no spinal cord injuries. So which type of doctor would be best? and what's the difference between the two?

I personally would recommend an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine. I'm glad you are doing better.

So does anyone know what an osteopath specializes in. There's an Osteopathic school of medicine directly behind where I work and a few people at work have been recommending I try them, but no one seems to know the difference between the two different types of doctors. I can't even really find a clear definition on the web,:(

I don't know about in the US but in the UK osteopaths are not necessarily medically trained but specialise in spinal manipulation and the like but don't do surgery
No offense to any osteopaths but I think with the injury you had you should see an orthopaedic surgeon
