Ok, I have balance issues, always have.:(
That being said, is it natural to have problems with your balance when you do lunges? In the beginning I thought it was due to the weakness of legs that had not been trained for a long time, but nothing has changed and I am beginning to think my form may be off...any ideas?
Maybe I just need a kickstand or something. :)

LMAO...kickstand? I feel ya, I am terribly clumbsy too!
The general rule I think is to not set both your legs in a straight line. Keep them horizontally separated by about six inches to keep your balance. Doing this increases your base of support and makes your body more stable so you won't lose your balance while doing a set. Try that, also, sometimes I find that I am apt to wiggle if I am leaning forward (out of form) Hope this helps!!

That sounds reasonable, I try to pay particular attention to not leaning but I have never considered focus on keeping my legs apart, maybe that is what I am doing wrong.:surprised:
Thanks!!

No problem, I hope it works for you! Do you watch yourself in the mirror dfly411? I can't seem to keep my form if I don't, I guess my mind is visual! lol

Ummm, uh, I don't think pulling a David and Goliath is going to work.
Do you think maybe they would just make room for me if I played upon my clumbsiness? I could show them how unstable I am whilst doing my lunges and then they would see that I require a wide girth.....heehee:big_smile:

Balance was a big deal for me when it came to lunges, even though my form was good. I worked with a trainer that put a large amount emphasis on focus. (big yoga guy too) He taught me how to begin my lunges by standing with my feet together and getting my mind focused, then stepping to the side and beginning the set. It was a different approach, but, it did help. Good luck!

Yes, you could just lunge and level them all down I guess. haha!! There is this one guy in my gym that makes it an obvious point to get right beside me and slightly to the front of me whenever we happen to be in at the same time. It is sooooo irritating because it seems he is trying to give me the message that I am in his space, you know?
Thinking about what Julisa says, I guess focus could play a really good part in lunge balance. When I think about it, looking in the mirror does help me to focus. And, I always go into my lunges without creating any kind of stance or thinking ahead to much other than I have 15 reps. I will try this and see how it works tonight!

I have no idea, I was just trying to post back and it isn't even up there??
Anyway, let me know how goes it with your lunges, ok?
