so, since winter break, i've had to start doing the team football workout. my strength coach is a 180 pound former cornerback who took a seminar one day, so he is obviously qualified. anyway, when we started 7 weeks ago, I could squat 460x10, but now, i can barely get 10 at 425. this is really upsetting me.on monday and thursday, we have to do 3x10 on saquat, front sqaut cg bench, military press, inside grip incline dumbell press, dips core bar curls on a rocker board and glut/ham ext. then on tues and fri, we have to do jammers, power cleans/snatches, push and split jerks. I just feel like my legs are bein overtrained, because you do still use them with the power movements. I've talked to my coach about it and he said in a conceited voice, "once you start getting paid to be strength coach, then you can make decisions on your workout, until then you better do my workouts the way I made them." working out is a personal thing, and evryones body responds differently to different things, but he wont let individuals listen to their body, everyone simply has to do the same program, and it is seriously hurting me.Also, he determined the weight we use on our sets by having us see what we could do for one set 10 times, then he right away made our workouts so that we have to use that same weight for 3 sets of 10. And that, for me isnt possible. but since then my weight has dropped anyways. I'm sorry, this is just upsetting to me and i had to post it.

The old rock and the hard place. I feel for you. How about the rest of your teammates? Similar story? Talk to the head coach. However, sounds like your strength coach will get 'his feelings' hurt. What has it done for your speed, endurance, etc. If your head coach sees that it is affecting you in these areas he will definitely want to get involved. Just trying to respond with some ideas.

I'm surprised that a Big Ten school would have a strength coach with such thin credentials. What kind of running and conditioning are you doing? If you made a drastic shift from just lifting to lifting combined with intense running, a drop in weight is natural. If it continues to be a problem , though, maybe a heads up to the head coach is in order.

no, were not a big ten school, were a d3 university in wisconson, not the wisconsin badgers. I wish i could play for them though. but the thing is that we don't even start running until after spring break, so i dont know how its affected my speed yet. But since my legs are getting weaker and ive been losing some flexibility, I can assume it's not gonna be good. Thanks for the advice guys, I might have to just talk to the head coach.

Again, it would be best if you had some others with similar complaints/concerns to go with you. If his program is structured the way that you say, there have got to be others in the same boat as you.
