3 times a week I attend my martial arts class, most of the workout consists of PUSHUPS!!!
This is a typical class for me:
- Max pushups right at the start of class, chest all the way down to the floor and back all the way up (I started around 28 I am upto 44 after a year)
- if you fail to make your pushup count you have to do "burpees" thats when you jump up then drop to the ground and do a pushup then jump back up agian, that is 1 .. so 44 of those
- then the workout starts 50 regular, 10 finger tips, 10 knuckle pushups
-then we do abs and stretching and so on
- at the end of the work out we do about 3-4 sets of "extras" they are just a variety of diffrent type of pushups (side to side, tricep pushups, diamond pushups, one hand push ups ect)about 10-25 reps each depending on the type of pushup

I am very sore in the chest after these classes and therefore i cant really do benchpress and heavy wieghts on my off kung fu days,... I have been noticing that i am getting some definition though
But what my real question to all you experts is are all these pushups helping me ?? I want to be bigger and more defined.. thanks

Vinnie,
Pushups are a great base exercise to get your chest and arms in shape, I have been lifting for 2 years now 5 days a week, and I still do 100 everynight before I hit the shower. If your sore after these try doing some cable exercises, low weight high reps, they put no extra stress on your muscles. Hope this helps. Peace.

push ups got me into weights and working out, i used to do crazy amounts like 100 a set or something like that. it defines your chest and starts off tricep growth, but after a while u stop seeing automatic gains, so try weighted ones or weightlifting.
p.s. that is all
