Hello all. I'm working on losing the extra weight I've put on in the last couple years. My question is this. In trying to lose weight (20 or so lbs), should I start with mainly cardio until the weight starts to come off, or should I start with the cardio and weights at the same time?

Thanks!

Hi.
My goal is to lose weight also. I was told doing cardio will lose both fat and muscle. And if I combine cardio and weight training together, I will minimize the muscle loss and even gain a little bit of muscle depending on the diet and intensity of weight training.

I would do both. By using strength training you will be building muscle which will increase your metabolism which will burn more calories. Follow a total body workout with weights 3 days a week with cardio every other day. Of course this is just a suggestion. You can structure it anyway you like that fits your schedule, goals, etc. That and a proper diet is the key to long term weight loss. Make cardio, weights, and diet a part of your lifestyle and you will look better and, more importantly, feel better. Good Luck
