I was wondering if it was okay to have a massage and workout on the same day. If so, which should I do first? I had a massage for the very first time Saturday. I was told I should not work out that day. Why???

HP116, I would work out first...if you spend your time and money on a massage to relax and encourage rest/repair of the muscles and the excretion of toxins, working out is kind of like putting the cart in front of the horse!! You body needs time and lots of water for this process.

I would imagine they told you that because you may be so relaxed that you may misjudge the amount of weight you use. And why waste all that great relaxation on getting hyped back up?

Two main reasons. One is that a deep tissue massage can cause tears in the muscle fibers like working out does so there for can casue more harm as well. Also if you have worked out the actual muscles might be sore and the massage will be very painfull....
