I have been working out for 5 months and i only work one muscle group once a week i was thinking of uping it to twice a week for each muscle group. I was just wondering if this is any more beneficial than once a week? Will i see more muscle mass and gains or will i risk over training?

It's okay, as long as overall you are resting in between days. I usually don't work on upper body for more than 3 consecutive days, and at least 1 day rest for working the same muscle group(s).

What do you mean when you ask how would you do a split like that. Do you mean how would you work out all the muscles 2 twice without getting injured or something???

When I last put more emphasis on a couple of my weaker, upper body muscles, I had a split that looked like this:
Mon - Chest/Tri
Tue - Shoulders/legs
Wed - Rest
Thu - Back/Bi
Fri - Chest/Tri
Sat - Rest
Sun - Back/Bi

well you can do whats called a double day split
mon
am chest back
pm legs
tues
am shoulders
pm arms
off weds
thurday mon workout
fri tue work out
thats very hard to do and you have to have lots of free time lol
or you can do 2 muscle groups a day and flip them the next work out in the rotation
mon chest back
tues legs biceps
weds tri shoulder
thur back chest
fri biceps legs
sat shoulder tris
sun off
again very hard work out and your body only gets one day to really recover, unless you have a very very good recovery rate I would not suggest this work out, unless all other ways have failed...............justin If your not gaining.......then either your overtraining now, not geting enough rest, not traing your whole body, or not eating right. Diet is the key to everything

rpacheco...In the split that you posted...you did work upper body for 3 consecutive days...(sun, mon, tues) is that only because you were trying to emphasize growth in weaker areas of your upper body? Because you posted that u dont work upper for 3 consecutive days.....

So i guess from the posts i'm getting here it sounds like a bad idea to work each muscle twice a week. I don't believe i'm over training at all and my diet it pretty sound i'm continually working on that. right now i'm trying to find out what makes me grow. I'm trying less weight more reps with about 4 sets on the bigger muscle groups and 3 sets on the smaller muscles like bi's and tri's.

If you look at my posts, I stated that you should not do any more than 3 consecutive days.
