I work out ususally 6 times a week at lunch time. I have an hour and do legs Mon with a 20 minute cardio. Tuesday arms and chest and a 20 min cardio. shoulders and traps Wed and a 2o minute cardio. Thursday Friday I do 40-50 min mixed cardio using all equipment. I do one or two HIT's every couple of weeks. Sun I do a Step class and Yoga. I also do abs 2-3 times a week.

My question is should I separate my weights from the cardio days so that the cardio sessions are longer, or leave it like it is? I am trying to lose 15 pounds. My diet is clean lots of protein and no low glycemic carbs.

Thanks for your input

First, that's an aweful lot of cardio. How have your results been? And are you continuing to see/have results? To answer your question, cardio and weights should simply be separated...whether you do cardio in the AM and weights in the PM, or do them on entirely different days. The answer may not be in increasing your cardio session, but really the type of cardio that you do to get you to burn off the unwanted weight. I might suggest HIIT and keep the session no longer than 20 mins.

I have managed to lose 10lbs so far but I attribute this mostly to diet. I have been following the South Beach diet that is similar to Atkins but stresses healthy fats and not as much fat. I have great success when I do phase 1 which is very limited carbs. But you can only do this for 2 weeks.

I have been exercising regularly at the gym for a quite a few years. I do incorporate HIIT now and then. I choose the zone training button on the eliptical machine and do the extreme heart rate which has you max out and slow down throughout the workout.

Since I only have time to go to the gym once a day perhaps I should not do cardio on the days I do weights. What is the reason for not doing them together?I usually do the weights first.
