Your best bet is go to walmart they have a 120 pound weight set for like 20 dollars w/ the bar. It's nothing special but it will get the job done. Plus they sell dumbells for 5 dollars and weights range from 94 cents to 10 dollars at all different sizes. Or you can buy their 40 pound dumbell weight set it includes small sized weights for dumbells like 2 pounds to 10 pounds. That would probably be your best bet and you would only be spending 40 dollars.
For UNDER 50 DOLLARS! you get
2 dumbell handles
40 pounds of weight
1 barbell bar
120 pounds of weight for the bar
Sounds like a perfect start my friend.

It might help if you post your location (or fill out your profile). I got mine off www.Craigslist.org - but that only has certain areas. You have 2 ways to go right now - people selling used sets will be more expensive than normal cause everyone is hitting the new year's resolutions...but new ones might be on sale at places! Good Luck!
PS - I saw some cheap workout stuff at Costco once!

Actually wallmarts not a bad choice; they have the hex dumbells up 2 30lbs, & sell individual plates also. Dont pay more than .50 cents a pound at other locations.
