Hi everyone. I'm new to the site and lifting. I have a small frame body and have not really done too much lifting. So what is a good way to determine the amount of weight to start out with. I've read my exercise and it gives me the amount of reps. I'm concerned about over-training and at the same not getting a good lift. If someone could give me a few pointers as to what I should be lifting. Thanks

Start off SLOW! You have a long time to go. If you jump in too much, too fast, you will burn out and it will become a job. I promise you!
Do the number of reps with an easy weight. Every time you come back, add 5 pounds and do the number of reps. Keep upping your weight until, say for 10 reps, the last 2-3 are pretty tough. There's your weight! Easy!
There are formulas and stuff...but start slow so you'll look forward to the next time.
Too bad you aren't closer. I'm coming off shoulder surgery and could use a training partner. I'm starting over myself! Above all, Stick with it and Welcome to FT!

use weight u know u can handle, when ur just now starting out ur body needs to get used to the range of motion, and the excercies them selves, your nervious stystem has to get used to it as well, and get coordnated. Ur nervious system controls your muscles they have to adapt and find new nuro path ways to really " contol" the muscle...so basicly ur muscles aren't the olnly thing that needs u to go slow, ur nervious system has to learn so u can have more musclear control.......but big key is make sure u eating right or what u do will be in vain
