Hi all,

This is my second post here and I am so glad to have found this forum. I am looking to get back into an exersize routine at the gym, starting in the middle of January. I am a low carber at this point, having lost nearly 50 pounds so far. Eventually I am going to switch from my Atkins approach to a more "South Beach Diet" type plan eating around 1500 calories a day devoid of most flours and all refined sugar. I weighed 232 when I started Atkins and am holding strong at 188 this week. Anyhow....I am a little unsure of what I should do for a routine. I am estimating I have about 30 more pounds to lose. I am thinking my routine should consist of 30 mins of Cardio (5 days per week) and free weights (3 days per week). Any suggestions?

Try this-sign up for a 3 day a week program at ft. There should be a program that will fit your goals. Lots of different ways to arrange your program. If you want to do something everyday-Work out M-W-F. Do cardio-T,Th,S. Rest Sunday.

Hey Gawdess! (good name by the way - my nickname is Jeep Goddess) I would say - pick as many days as you will stick too. I've noticed between the 3 and 5 day programs here, you're not really doing to many more exercises - they just spread them out more.

I, personally, need to go 5-6 days a week because if it's not a regular thing for me, I will keep missing and missing until I only end up going one day a week (oh, it's Wednesday, I can still fit in my 3 this week....to damn, it's Saturday and I didn't workout yet!)

Hi Roxie! I am thinking a 3 day program is good to start with and I can add in the extra day or two when I am ready. I love Jeeps too! Someday I will have the money to get my own Wrangler!

Hi funcat - Before I started doing Atkins I was in the gym religiously working out doing cardio and weights....I never lost more than 5 pounds. Frustrated by this I quit the gym and got on Atkins in July. I was 232 pounds when I started and this morning I weighed in at 186, the lowest weight of my adult life. Befoe Atkins I had tried Weight Watchers, Tops, Working out, Low Fat everything, blah blah blah. Nothing every worked for me before low carb. I do believe I have a legitimate insulin issue which is why I have had such success. I say try Atkins and see how it works. The first two weeks are a b*tch but after the initial withdrawals occur and you adjust, things progressively get better and better (at least they did for me). If Atkins doesnt work for you or is not livable, try other plans. There are many out there. CAD,South Beach, etc. Dont give up until you find what works for you and your body.
For me Atkins has changed my life in every way. I am thinner, I am way more energetic, I dont feel sick after every meal, and I know exactly what I need to eat for the day. This plan has given me hope and shown me that I do have the power to change my body. I was ready to give up before finding this plan. I hope you find what works for you!Best of Luck! Let me know if you have any questions. I am happy to answer/help out. I spend a lot of time on the Atkins forums listed here.....
