i kind of have a gut going and i was wondering if anyone had some diet and exercise tips for me. thanks.

Yes, it may sound cliche', but work out and create a calorie deficit with your diet. This is the only way to tap into your fat stores. Working out will give you the lean toned body you want and quiken you caloric deficit, rather than just getting skinny and losing muscle tone.
