I need to pass an exam in 8 weeks. My cardio and my abs are fine, but I can't do any push-ups and chin-ups. Any tip on how to get there for the exam (I only have to do 15 push-ups and 5 chin-ups - but can't do any). My triceps seem to be the problem. Thanks for the help:)
Practice makes perfect. Although, here's a couple of techniques that may help:
For pushups, keep your arms a little further apart (maybe shoulder width or a little wider). The closer your arms are to each other, the more emphasis on your triceps and more distance from the ground to lockout.
For chinups, try them with your palms facing you (the other way puts emphasis on your triceps). You can also get some additional momentum going by slightly kicking up (looks like a worm movement) but this should help if it's allowed (this was an old Marine Corps trick we learned in boot camp). If you cannot pull yourself up, start with using a chair or stool for support and start mid-way up. In the beginning, don't go all the way down.
Good luck!
