For the last few months I have been having the worst sleep. I toss and turn for hours sometimes, periodically wake up in the middle of the night and wake up feeling like crap. The most sleep I get now is around 7 hours, and even with that much I still feel groggy. Typically I get about 5.5 or 6 hours of "sleep".

Some of these bad sleeping habits are coming from when I was in college. I think for my entire time there I got maybe 6 hours sleep max every night.

Does anyone have any suggestions for helping me get a better sleep? I could really use it.

I think the most important factor for sleep is a rigid wakeup time. If you awaken at the same time daily, your bodys internal clock will take care of the rest.

You could try doping ome relaxation exercise before you fall asleep - lots of good meditation/relaxation tapes out ther. I always get into a really sound sleep when I listen to my tape as I fall asleep.
Also, light, getting to bed at the same time and getting up at the same time, even on weekends. You get 'jet-lag' when you aletr your sleep schedule on the weekend and it lasts until Wednesday. Cut out caffiene before 2 pm, no alcohol (it disrupts your sleep patterns), try to make your bedroom a place where you only do two things, sleep and..you know.., do you have allergies? That keeps me up, sniffling, trying to breath, getting a dry throat from breathing through my mouth..
Try getting some extra calcium with your last meal, it is supposed to be a natural tranquilizer, as is tryptophan, the amino acid responsible for that drowsy feeling after eating too much turkey.
Don't take your vitamins late in the day, some b vitamins can have a stimulant effect.
Good luck, I hope you get some good rest.

I stopped at the health food store before I went to the gym yesterday and picked up some ZMA. I took the ZMA an hour before bed. I still tossed and turned for like an hour (i think it may be my blanket... its itchy), but when I woke in the morning I felt a lot better rested! And this is on the first day I took the stuff.

Thanks for the advice! I'm going to take ZMA every night!

My husband was having trouble with waking up a lot and since taking ZMA he sleeps like a log. It isn't supposed to make you sleepy, but it seems to knock him out. He started out taking the 4 capsules recommended, but was having trouble waking up, so he cut back to 3 and is doing better. He sure loves it though.
