Hey guys. So I got back from the doctor's today and found out that I have a heart murmur and high blood pressure. I'm going to reduce the amount of salt I intake each day to help with my blood pressure which is 160/76. I've been playing basketball 4 times a week. What else can I do to lower blood pressure besides running and playing ball? Preferably exercises that will let me keep my mass. Would sprints or HIIT work because looking at all the world class sprinters, they're pretty buff? If so, how many sprints should I limit myself to? Thanks.

timbaland. Your doctor should answer specific questions about restrictions on exercise. I've lived with high bp for 20 years and I am in no way restricted on exercise. Your 120/76 numbers aren't really high. 120/70 is normal. It took a lot of tries before the docs got my medications right. If you ever have to take meds, make them keep trying until you have zero side effects. Whatever meds you end up on should have absolutly zero side effects. Hope this helps.

135 to 145 is high-normal and anything over that is HIGH. My husband's is in the 150's and so far after 2 1/2 years of healthy eating and regular workouts/cardio, his hasn't changed. I honestly think stress has a lot to do with it and learning how to de-stress and deal with it in a healthy way has a lot to do with lowering your BP. Anyone else with ideas, please post. I'm interested in suggestions along with timbaland.
