I was watching a show on it tonight and it really caught my interest. Men are getting abs, pecs, and calves implanted while the women are still doing their breasts. Guys are even using lyposuction (sp?) around their stomach etc...
The program said that a guy achieving that "cut" body they see in pop culture is more difficult than a woman to be 5'9, 110 lbs and have 36D breasts. It's just sad that we as people are so hung up on what the media says is beautiful. I'm in this to be healthy and feel great, if that helps attract the opposite sex, great. But paying for the ultimate body with cash seems cheap, arrogant, amd quite sad. I think those people would feel better about themselves in the long run if they accepted who they are and what they can become naturally. Just my $.02 |

The majority of people who get these type of surgeries are arrogant and lazy they need to take the time and achieve these results slowly and earn it. There will always be people looking for the easy way out or the quick fix. Nothing worth having is cheap free or easy

Agreed. I was watching Extra (I think) and they were talking about how theres anorexia in men. This one dude dropped his weight down to like 65 pounds. It showed pics of him. Damn he was all bones basically. I heard liposuction doesn't work from my anatomy teacher. He said a good portion of the fat would come back I forgot why though.

Well ya, the fat would come right back unless they changed their eating and exercise habits. That's why there was fat there in the first place. ;)

i think improving your looks are fine as long as you have tried everything else ....surgery should be something that is needed not wanted......a lot of people who get it done really have nothing wrong with them and that i have a problem with.....if you get into an accident or something then i say yes......but then again who am i to tell them what to do , it's their money....what a waste of good money...

Many people after losing the weight and exercising religiously still have trouble spots or funny shapes that really bother them. Therefore if they can afford it and want to take the risk lipo. That is what lipo is for problem areas that are diet and exercise resistant due to age, genetics a lot of weight loss etc. Some people have horrible hanging skin after losing 50 or more lbs. You want to say they are silly and vain for wanting to fix it?? Let us be real. In spite of the obvious health benefits from our lifestyles, if we did not get results in the looks dept (as you all show your pix so proudly), most of us would give up. Everyone is vain to a degree especially in the gym world.

I agree with some of what you are saying rickyshot. I have a friend who after loosing something like 70 lbs+ wound up with very loose skin which made her feel rather dejected since she watched her diet closely and exercised regularly. She ended up having some stuff done - a tummy tuck and some other things (I didn't pry too much here) but the results showed in her demeanor - she is very happy with herself so I guess in this instance, the case is for plastic surgery.
But, to tell the truth, I was never much one for it. I think it has to do with the fact that I tend to see people who work hard at becoming physically fit as the type of people I respect and admire. They have qualities such as perserverance, self control and personal integrity that I myself strive to attain. I think the people who "buy" their looks are in direct contradiction to the qualities I just mentioned and thus are not factual and seem misleading. |

One of those questions where each individual reason tends to be different.
Basically it's for correctional, confidence and or vanity reasons. Sometimes drastic physical changes can trigger drastic mental changes which usually boils down to the fine line of confidence vs. conceit. I don't think I would have a great deal of satisfaction knowing my abs, pecs etc...were made of silly-cone and not muscles tissue, but if one were to lose a significant amount of weight and desired to to remove excess skin that was hiding their hardwork, discipline and persistence well...I just think it depends on the circumstance. |
