I want to start weight training to speed up my metabolism but I don't want to gain inches. But I'm lost as to what I should do? I've heard a few things on how to do it. I've heard that it doesn't matter how your lift you won't gain inches if you don't increase your kcal intake. I've heard just use low weight handweights daily, I've heard use the machines once a week. I don't know what to do now.
My questions for ya'll are.... How often should I lift? What type of lifting? I want to lower my bodyfat and not increase my muscle mass.
As long as you carefully monitor your calories regardless of how you lift you will absolutely not gain in size it is physically impossible. As for how to train it enters into another aspect of goals all together. If you wish to gain strength lift heavy or if cardiovascul health & muscular endurance are your goals then use light weight high repetitions. Personally I would reccomend doing both, along with some outdoor activity such as running or cycling just to keep it interesting. As far as frequency goes as long as you change it up & don't repeat the same workout day after day you can workout as often as you like from 3 times per week to 3 times per day, whatever you are personally happy with. Just remember that there are so many different activities that can be constituted as working out & since general fitness is your goal, don't limit yourself.
