Yesterday I did triceps and chest.
(3 sets of 12) triceps cable pulldown w/ rope lying triceps dumbell extension triceps press chest press peck deck incline dumbell flyes lying dumbell flyes I also tried a new thing...the umm..hmm, what was it called? some sort of upright bench press machine. It was hard, I only did 2 sets of 8. Today I went to the gym at the a$$crack of dawn and did 20 minutes on the stairmaster. I hate that thing. Eating was good yesterday but I didn't keep track on paper or anything. I made a delicious salmon salad for my family with romaine lettuce, yellow peppers, cucumbers, almonds, grilled salmon and olive oil and balsamic vineger! |

Tara, I meant to mention this on your other thread but believe it or not there's a sleep disorder that causes night eating, just like sleep walking! Most people don't wake up, though. They just go in the kitchen, eat, and go back to bed without ever waking up. Sometimes they eat huge, huge amounts of food; more than they would if they were awake. I read about it when I was looking into treatment for my insomnia.
Anyway though you might be interested just in case this is what's happening to you. |

Jessica, I really think I could possibly have that!!! I sometimes eat in my sleep and wake up with food in my bed. My parents think its so funny. I've gotten up at company's house and eaten truffles and not known it!
oh boy. ravenwolf, you're always encouraging! thanks! victoria, you ought to try a similar salad with chicken, that's what i had to make my picky mom. Thanks for the compliments! |

I need to take a break. period. I'm burnt. This week, as I mentioned in another post, is the sturgis motorcycle rally and I am waitressing double shifts this week. Some of them will be from 6:45am to 1 am. I know people say "if you're truly dedicated, you'll make time..bla bla" but honestly folks, I don't want to put myself through it. So a week off. The bad thing is, I will need to take a week off in early September too. I hope I don't go down the drain. *worried*. Well whatever, life happens.
Be back soon :) |

Sounds like you are more than due for a break. Take it, listen to your body. You will be all the better for it. Dedication is one thing, but common sense is another. Good luck to you. -------------- Great people never want it easier, they just want to be better! Ron |

Sounds like your job this week will be workout enough. Don't worry too much, just make sure you get some rest. My whole month of July was screwed up but I started over even more dedicated on Aug 1. I've been resting this week, too - I took a rest week from weights recently but increased my running distance at the same time and then tried to cram two weeks of weights into the following week to make up for it. So I ended up *having* to take a week off because my knees got so wobbly I couldnt' even squat light without them wagging back and forth and my shoulders felt like they were falling out of their sockets besides. Plus a twingy elbow and various other aches and pains; I felt like the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz. I haven't done a thing this week but stretch. Dedication is one thing but skipping rest is just asking to get hurt. You have to make time to recover, too.
I get to go back to the gym tonight but I'm still planning on taking a light week to get back into it. It's scary to feel like your body is falling apart, a real wake up call for me. The last thing I want is a rotator cuff or knee injury to put me out for a lot longer than a week or two. |

thanks for the posts Victoria, Ron and Jessica. good to know I'm not the only one who isn't super-woman! It's always good to get reassurance from Ron "the pro" too! :) Hope the gym went well for you Jessica. Haha that sounds like something I would do...try and squeeze 2 weeks into one.
Well I've been getting home at 1 and 2 in the morning...in bed an hour later (I have to wind-down and eat and whatnot) having to sleep until 10 or 11, ready by 12, then back to work at 2. That 2 hours is pretty much used for laundry, dishes, etc. I was off a bit early tonight. phewf. Happy workouts you all, do an extra set for me, okay? |

Wow Tara, Took a min. to read through your journal, you are doing great, keep up the good work and PS I rest for a week about every 12 weeks, Got to give your body recovery time, The way you work out, the effect of a week off now and then, won't hurt you, The mental aspect of a week off is good for the brain too, but be ready for a little soreness, I always get that after my week off.-------------- I will lift my own weight someday!!!!! Lifted 135lbs on July 1, 2003, I did it!! WOOOO WOOOOOO THE NATURAL WAY IS THE ONLY TRUE PATH TO SUCCESS, PRIDE, JOY, HAPPINESS, LONG TERM FULFILLMENT AND SELF-ESTEEM! |

thanks a bunch sandy and victoria. (yes, i'm raking in the tips!)
The break has been good. I can't get over the feeling of guilt though! Today I only had one shift and I was really tempted to go to the gym but I figure I should wait a couple days so that I can go right back into the regular regime and full force! I'm not worried about being sore. I like it :) i've been eating the best i can...way too many meal replacements but it is the absolute very best i can do. I get one meal...one break... during my 12 hour shifts. the other ones have to somehow come out of my pocket in small bites..or in a bottle. okay so today i ate BAD... as a matter of fact, I pretty much fasted. I broke up with my boyfriend of almost 3 years :( I can't help it though, I think I'd puke. well on that note... be back in a few -- take care |

Oh Tara, that's terrible. You have enough on your mind with that and your work schedule, don't worry too much about eating right now. Just don't get into starvation mode for too long. I'm not keeping up on this darn journal very well.
Back day went well. I was sore yesterday! I can't remember exactly what I did. A total of 5 excercises at 3 sets of 12 each. I also did about 3 ab excercises. Stairmaster for 20 mins. Then a 12 mile bike ride in the evening. Yesterday was just the ol' bike ride. Today was shoulders and biceps day. I never know what to do for biceps. Curls, curls, and more curls. so yeah, I did a bunch of curls...trying to change it up a bit. 3 different "kinds" I guess. As for shoulders, I did side lats, front lats, the shoulder press, shrugs, and that one thing with dumbells... hmm I don't know what it's called. You sit down, with a dumbell in each hand, and lift them up once at a time? hard to explain. anyways, then 20 mins on the stairmaster again. I used to hate that thing but I'm starting to like it. I'm going to low carb it for a couple weeks. Not no-carb, but low-carb :) |

Hey Tara, how's it going kiddo? I know (at least I hope) you are laying off the workouts for a while to get over your burnout, but I hope you don't feel like you can't still come here just for the fun and camaraderie! I miss your company, and hope you are feeling better.-------------- ~Victoria~ ...There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.--Beverly Sills |
