What kind of difference is involved when working with dumbells rather than resistance tubing and so forth???

It has to do resistance... Say you do bicep curl with a 20 lb dumbell. The dumbell remains the same weight (20 lbs) for the entire range of motion of the curl. But using a resistance band, the resistance increases as you perform the curl. Resistance is at its lowest at the beginning of the curl, where you are weakest, and is at its highest resistance when you complete the curl, where you are strongest. I use both freeweigts and resistance bands and find that a combination gives good results.
