I know that weight training causes your veins to get bigger, although I don't really know the why, but does it cause varicose veins. My husband is really worried about some of the veins in his legs. He thinks they are varicose and I'm wondering if they are just getting bigger. How do you tell? And if they are what do you do about it? Thanks.

Weight training shouldn't cause varicose veins - as you get healthier your veins should be more elastic and less prone to valve collapse, which is what varicose veins is caused by, the inner valve stops pummping blood and it pools in the vein, causing the unsightly bulge that so many people hope never to get.
I think varicose veins are genetic, as well as lifestyle caused.
he may just be seeing more veins because his blood wvolume has increased and also, as you age your veins are more prominent (maybe because you skin is thinner, I don't know).
I guess the only way to tell what is going on is to see a doctor or specialist, though thay aren't always right either.
Good luck!
