I have been thinking about this for awhile and I was running through some articles on diabetes and what follows are excellent guidelines if you have diabetes. I have had type II diabetes for 5 years now and when I was first told about it I was so very overwhelmed by it. You see it only ran every other generation in my family. What a big fat myth, I broke that chain. When I first found out I weighed in at 250lbs and now I am 129 and working on losing a few more pounds. Between my doctors advice and my husband training me I am in my best physical condition ever. One other thing, no more meds, no more shots in the stomach. So if you are a diabetic and over weight, get on the program, you can be healthy and fit and even sometime med free.

A healthy diet and exercise are important for everyone, but for people with Type 2 diabetes, they are also the first-line treatment. Steps to both a smarter diet and a regular exercise regimen include:

Cut out saturated fats (animal fats).

Include some monounsaturated fats (olive oil, canola oil, nuts and nut oils).

Cut down on and balance your carbohydrates (sugars and starches).

Lose weight if you are overweight.

Exercise: Talk to your doctor if you have never exercised before and want to start an exercise program – if you are at risk for heart problems you should have a stress test before you start.

Plan to follow this program for the rest of your life and find ways to make it something you can live with.

Get your friends and family involved so that you don’t have to do this alone.

With these steps, you are on your way to a healthier life and better control of your Type 2 diabetes.

Great info Sandy.

250 to 129! Wow, that is great! You must be very proud - what an accomplishment. I'm sure you have mentioned your success before on FT, I guess I just wasn't paying attention. So, I decided to pay MORE attention...

In keeping with my new "pay more attention" attitude, I'm cruising around and click on your profile and I notice some of your additional pics... What the hell's up with them guns, girl!? You look great! You think you and BB1 could adopt me and be my official mentors? I'm thinkin' maybe - just maybe - you folks might know what your doin'! Not that I ever doubted that for one minute...
