I'm an enormous proponent of the straight leg dead lift. Recently a friend of mine suggested that I try bent leg dead lifts. He said it worked the lower back area more then the hamstring area. Is this true?
So what are the advantages of using "bent leg" instead of straight leg dead lifts? Just curious.
straigh leg deadlifts will target your hamstrings moreso over bent leg. Bent leg will focus slightly more on your lower back muscles. Remember that the bottom portion of the exercise or either movement will focuse on your legs.. primarily hamstrings, then the top of the movement it will be moreso on your lower back as you straighten out your torso..
Good Luck, the best way is to experiment.
