Hi, I was wondering what I need to be doing for abs. Should I do crunches alone or should I do a variety of movements each time I do them? What do you suggest?

I've been reading around on the web and the best I've seen on abs are situps, sidebends and twists.

I started doing the situps in the gym on a decline bench and could feel a dramatic difference then doing crunches. What I've learned is crunches only work top part of you stomach and then you will have to also do a lower ab workout also. Where situps works the entire ab from top to bottom.
But then again if it fat your trying to get rid of all the crunches and situps in the world wont help you, you must do some kind of cardio workout to get rid of the layer(s) of fat on the abs. This is something I had to come to grips with myself and started doing 30 mintues of cardio, 15 before I workout on weights and 15 after.
This website has an ab only workout that you can start with, I'm doing it myself along with a 12 week program.

Sorry so long hope it helped.

good points janebond. don't neglect diet, if you want to see a six pack than bodyfat should be around 10%. the 12 week program is good. its crunches for upper abs, leg raises for lower abs, and twists for the obliques. for all three the main points are breathing properly and keeping the abs tight throughout the movement (squeeze at top of movement). if need be, later on, you can use some weight for resistance. do this about 2-3 times a week, but no more as abs need sometime to rest too.

THanks to both of you. I have been doing cardio 4 days a week for about 45 minutes to an hour a day. I have lost some weight and am beginning to become more lean. I have also been working on my diet and am trying to eat a balanced diet which is low in fat and calories. I've increased my water intake as well, but that is probably the most difficult challenge! Thanks again. I got the ab workout from this site so I'll start that one and see how it goes.
