I joined a gym on 1/4/03, I go 4 days a week. I need to lose AT LEAST 50 pounds. I do Treadmill and machines on those days and walk or treadmill on the other three days. I belong to Weight Watchers and use the "higher protein" diet with them. I have lost NO weight and NO inches. What in the world am I doing wrong? I treadmill 10 minutes at 3mph, no incline before the machines, work all large muscles on machines for about 30 minutes, another 25 minutes on the treadmill at 3mph at 3 inclinse after machines. Please any help out there???

Increase your cardio time and vary your workout. Don't stay at 3 mph and 3 incline the whole time. And try another cardio like the ecliptical (SP?) trainer. And hang in there!

It is so discouraging!!! Especially since I have so much to lose and I am 55 years old. I want it NOW!!! =o) I tried the elliptical trainer and thought I was going to die after about 2 minutes. I need to try it again. Thanks.

I would highly advise adding resistance training into your workout. Cardio will only do so much for you.

I am doing resistance training on the machines at the gym. I exercise my large muscles, legs, arms, etc.

Give the elipticle trainer a chance. If you did 2 min, go for 5. It really works and is easier than the magic carpet (treadmill) and look at your hr, make sure you are in your zone. Don't be discouraged. I would have a close look at your carb intake even though your a ww.
Good Luck.

I have a real problem with my carb intake. I do not tolerate carbs well at all!!! But when I really cut back I CRAVE bread and pasta. I LOVE bread but can take or leave pasta. When I eat bread I eat cracked wheat but still . . . I wish I would just give up all simple carbs. I just don't know how to get around it.

Also, my HR is about 130 at 3 and 3, and about 115-120 when I do the warm up at 3 mph no incline. Is this about right?

Hello deby, i think you are doing fine. You can't be so hard and strict on yourself. However, you need to make a plan and stick with it. Remember to speed up your metabolism up you must try to eat 5 to 6 small meals per day. These meals should be well balanced. (protein, carbs, and oh yes good fat.)( Try to stick with all natural foods as well they won't stick to you as much.) It is also said that anyone looking to lose bodyfat or weight must eat 10 to 12 times their body weight in calories. (Example 100 pounds 1000 to 1200 calories per day.) Remember to keep up with the weight training as well, which should include high reps. Remember the more muscle you have the more calories you burn. Lastly i believe you should switch things up, shock your body everyonce in a while. I know this works i dropped 30 pounds last summer, and my body fat dropped to around 7%. Good luck you can do it.

Thanks for all of the input. This week is a new week, I am going to try the elliptical trainer tonight. I usually do eat 5 small meals a day, I have been doing that for years. I am cutting back on carbs and eating more protein. I will let you know at the end of this week. Thanks again.
