Today I ate Raisin Bran and took a protein shake about 1 hour before basketball practice. At the end of practice we ran sprints and I puked. Not fun. It wasnt that the sprints were that bad. Ethier I should eat something different or I am just really out of shape??

Pretty heavy stuff to eat b4. Has nothing to do with being out of shape. The milk probably curdled from the rise in your body temperature. Thus never getting digested. Try having the shake with water b4 sports. Hope this helps.

Good advice, caravan.

Yeah, agree with carivan. Perhaps something like a protein/energy bar before. I find those digest quickly. Many marathoners use energy bars/supplements during the race and don't experience problems. Of course, they're not doing sprints either.

One word (or rather 5) Peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It's quick, satisfying, filling, and pretty good for you. Plus, it won't make you barf. I always fuel up with a PB&J sandwich or two before I take my bike out for a ride (usually 20-25 hard miles) and it's the best and cheapest thing I've found. Protein shakes are good, but they always sit in my stomach like a rock. I save those for when I'm done for the day.

Thanks for the advice. No more puke for me. I am going to try the PBJ sandwich because I forgot how much I like those anyway. Practice is really fun this year and I will keep you posted as to our season. I am a junior this year and hope to start varsity. thanks for all your help as I may not be around all the time anymore. I did lift Triceps and Biceps last night and my arm are so SORE today. And it is because of all the help here.

I'm in the same boat with you lew. I am also a junior who just started bball. Our coach doesn't really make us run a lot of sprints. For the first week of practice we do have to run timed 2 miles b4 practice which really takes the energy out of you for practice. And did i mention soreness! I was so sore the first few days i could hardly move!

Glad to see you in all those sports. I go to a small high school so basically if you go out you can play on some level. How big is your high school??
