Endurance Training

Well, a few weeks ago I realized that I was only two months away from this 60 mile walk I am doing for Breast Cancer, and I was going to have to shift my focus to endurance.

The time I have to work out is being usurped by my walking since I need to get up to 20 miles in a day comfortably. Even at a 4-4.5 mph pace, I am spending between 2 and 4 hours on the sidewalks and trails 3-4 days a week, then I have a weekly bike group this summer too, we ride 20 miles on Monday evenings.

I've been trying to incorporate some resistance training into my walks.. carrying 2 28 oz. gatorade bottles, I do alot of arm raises and circles with them and I do pushups on park benches, etc.

I am a bit sad that it is taking away from my weight-training but it is a goal I set back in December and only a few weeks ago got a smack in the head that being strong and fit was not going to be enough for this thing; my feet, knees, hips and back need the proper training and it's a much bigger time investment!

On a side note, my husband was diagnosed with skin cancer a few weeks back and we are happy to report that after several biopsies and excisions he's been given the all clear (Phew!!).
