Venting as an Instructor

Good God.  I want to preface this by saying I like to have a fun time and I hope I bring that to the classes I teach.  Keeping things lighthearted and fun is what I hope to do to continue having people return to my classes.

But sometimes I lose my marbles.  Today was one of those days.

I teach kettlebells and form, as in any physical activity, is of the utmost importance.  And actually giving some real effort is pretty important too.

I have a student who seems to think form is secondary and talking is more important that actually kicking your ass.  If you are able to talk the ENTIRE class you are NOT working hard enough.  Seriously.  Kettlebells will suck the wind out of you and leave you breathless and exhausted.

At the end of the session tonight I almost blew a gasket.  I did, however, try to remain calm and said "let me point two things out to you..."  I proceeded to explain that shitty form will hurt you.. and that talking the entire hour means you weren't working your ass off.  The only part tired on this student was the jaw.

You get out what you put in and if you don't put in the effort, don't expect results.

Rant over.

I could come whip his ass. It would be really embarrassing to get an ass whipping from a 60 year old man with 91% lung capacity.

Good on ya! This person seems to have no concept or desire to work hard.. just jabber...

I'm sure you remember I have COPD. My low point lung function was 74%. After 2 years hard work it was 91%. I get checked again in August. I wouldn't have your kind of patience. I have to work too hard to maintain.

haha.. funny thing, I don't think I'm the only instructor that notices this with this person... I did scold the student in front of everyone else.

Tim, you are an oak. I have not tried kettlebell work outs because of wind issues. I think a nice hot cup of STFU might be in order for your blabbermouth student. I lift in my den watching music shows with my wife. She knows better that to try to talk to me because I can't while I lift. My wind is a battle. I'd give anything to have it and I bust my ass to keep what I have. I think that you should give him that look of intensity from your photo on FB. Then demolish him.
