I am trying to lose weight. Presently, I am 245 lbs and would like to get to 200 lbs.

I am presently following the 8 week resistance program. I am doing 30 minutes of cardio in each session (normally on a cross trainer).

I have two questions:

1. I know my total daily intake calories to maintain my present weight. How many calories should I reduce safely by on a daily basis in order to attain my goal?

2. How often and when should reduce this total daily intake?

Thanks.

I'm not the best on weight loss. But I think a decent and safe way to go about it would be to drop 10% from your maintence requirement and continue to drop 10% every 1 or 2 weeks untill you start to shed about 2 pounds a week. Circut training is great for fat burning/endurance. But if FT has you doing something eles stick to that.

Without knowing your daily total, I would answer # 1 by reducing your current intake by 15 - 25%.

#2 - every day. Generally it is a good idea to consume most of your calories (60%) in the first half of the day then taper off keeping you last meal the smallest (but not too late).

Reduce your calories for about three days, then jump back up to your normal intake. Then drop them for another 3-4 days. 200-300 each time, do this for a couple of weeks then go above normal for a day then drop again. Keep your body guessing on intake. It keeps the metabolism faster. The days you jump back up is to keep your body from thinking that its going to starve.
