I'm in the process of recovering from an eating disorder and want to know how to gain weight the RIGHT way. I've been working with doctors and nutritionists and have basically been doing the following: I started at increasing my calories gradually until I got to around 1200...I stayed there for about a week or so, and have recently been trying to increase to 1300, 1600, 1800, etc. every 2-3 days. What I really would love to know are some basic FACTS about weight gain, such as 1) I know that my body is going to gain a lot of fat back, but how much of this is avoidable? Also, how much of this fat gain is permanent? .. 2) I have to eventually gain around 20 pounds. When can I expect my body to return to some sort of normal metabolism? ...3) I would love to start strength training soon (I'm currently banned from all forms of cardio)...would this be a good idea? .. thanks for your help!!

Do what your doctors suggest!
Once you gain the weight they want you to, they should gradually add in exercise.
