Training load would be the stimulating factor that causes one's body, CNS, etc. to adapt, furthuring athletic ability.

So in the case of strength training would muscular tension be considered the load, intensity being an indirect mesure?

Or is it a mesure of the external forces that lead to the stimulatioin?
