Hey...i have encountered what seems to be a slight problem.
I go to do machine calf raises for my routine right? Well, on my last set i was at 300. My calves could handle it. HOWEVER, i felt a dull pain in my back right beneath my shoulderblades because of the weight pushing down on my shoulders. Suggestions?

Thank you captain obvious, but what will help strengthen my back/shoulder so that it doesnt hurt as much? I dont want my calves to suffer just because of the pain of the weight bearing down on my shoulders

I can easily do that weight but i dont. I get some pain in my shoulders and the darn broken blood vessels. You could try lower weight more reps. - Mike

Maybe substitute either seated raises or use the leg press sled with different foot placements on each. I'm sure you probably already have those exercises in your program, but you don't want to hurt your back.

I'm with mzakal - think of 300 lbs crushing down your spine when it's not built up to that. It seems it takes more to build up the rest of the body than it does the calf (for me at least)....
Do the seated ones, that way just your calves are dealing with those weights...

Is your back and abbs tight? I used to do calf raises with 500lbs in a smith.......suck your chest in , stick your chest out.......shrug your shoulders up, thi skeep all the weigh off your spine, and on the "meat" of your back......if your back is slightly arched even a lil, it will ut stress, on the shoulder baldes and lower back

hrm ill check next time...
also, how can i do seated calf raises if i dont have a seated calf raise machine? like is there another way, or buH? i had to make it the standing machine calf raises because there is no seated calf raise machine :(
its kinda funny how my school has two gyms for atheletes (1 BRAND NEW for football players) and 1 that they just gave to the other sports.....and only 1 for the general masses which pay the most for the school...and we get shafted on machines :(

Make sure you are pinching your shoulder blades tightly together to make a strong base for the weight to sit on.
